Undoubtedly, the Taliban is barbaric. While the world is progressing towards gender inclusion, the Taliban refuses even to consider women as beings with human rights. For them, a woman is only an overly domesticated hausfrau whose only job is to look after the family and the domestic chores.

Over the past years, women's conditions in Afghanistan have been continuously degrading, but we did not witness any global superpowers extending major help to pitiful women.

But today, the tables have turned. Taliban is extending its barbarism to foreign women residing in Afghanistan, the UN reported. This includes migrated women, foreign women employed on working visas, and healthcare and relief workers from other nations.

The largest impact, however, is felt by NGOs, voluntary groups and international social workers like the United Nations' countrywide mission helping more than 25 million Afghanis.

As per the report of NewsOnAir, yesterday, on 4th April, female staffers of the UN Mission were prohibited from attending work in the eastern province of Nangarhar, in Afghanistan. The incident was brought forward by social media posts of the UN on Twitter.

After the incident, the UN was infuriated and warned the Taliban.

So now that the UN is directly involved and threatened, the joint effort of more than 193 member states of the UN can end Afghanistan’s miseries.

Why Afghanistan needs help:

Afghanistan is in peril. The Taliban colonize the nation for decades. Even though the US came in to rescue Afghan in 2001, the shield expired after twenty years in 2021 when the Taliban resumed control over the country.

And since then, the country is not reined by justice and equality; rather, terror and scrutiny captivate Afghani minds.

And although the crises are terrible for the entire generation, women are void of some basic human rights like the right to education and speech.

Since last year, Afghanistani women have been on a fancy house arrest. Women refrained from seeking education, going out without a headscarf, seeking medical care from a male doctor, and even leaving the house without male supervision.

“We don’t live, just exist”, says an Afghani woman, putting forward the real misery of life in Afghanistan.

The crises are so severe that when little school girls expressed their desire to attend school, they were mercilessly threatened and poisoned.

And that is not it. Women refrained from attending colleges and even seeking medical care from a male doctor. So ultimately, in the absence of women physicians in the near future, women should die untreated. Such hasty rules are clear evidence of the short-sightedness of the Taliban.

And this is not even the worse of all. Under the reign of the Taliban, women without a headscarf are shot dead in the head without a second thought.

So, if not already evident, Afghanistan needs our help.

How UN involvement will help:

Over the past years, UN has extended some help to the ailing nation. As per the UN’s official website, more than 25 million Afghanis are seeking humanitarian aid from the UN’s mission in Afghanistan.

But pointing fingers at some of the only lifesavers in Afghanistan, protests might fume in the country. And looking at the other side, the UN will protect its own.

So, the UN has two choices: either follow the orders and substitute the entire women workforce in the country with male counterparts or retaliate for women's rights.

And judging by the response of the UN’s chief Antonio Guterres, the UN has opted for the latter. In a statement, Antonio stated that a ban of such kind is “unacceptable” and “frankly inconceivable”.

He further stated that the move is the latest addition to the string of poking rules of the Taliban to restrict humanitarian aid in the country.

Additionally, the UN is backed by some of the most influential nations like the United States, Russia, and the United Kingdom. So, targeting women from these key nations is a clear invitation for a face-off.

At last, we can only hope that the direct involvement of the UN will resurrect the dead rights of women in Afghanistan.
