Musk and his former company come face to face for the first time in the AI war. The global AI war took an interesting turn when Elon Musk, the former founder and the direct opponent of OpenAI, launched his own AI Company, X.AI, to enter the highly-competitive and trending race of groundbreaking AI tech.

As per the information of Nevada Business Records, the company was registered on March 9th. Musk is registered as the company’s only director, and Musk’s personal finance manager, Jared Birchall, is named the company’s secretary.

Musk is reportedly making deals with a leading AI computing company, Nvidia. As per The Financial Times, Musk has secured thousands of GPU processors from Nvidia, which are also the prime component of technology like ChatGPT.

In the past few months, the rumours of Musk collecting a team of engineers to build OpenAI’s rival made headlines. And with the report of Nevada Business record, the claims are confirmed. Although Musk is still hush-hush about the matter, here is what we know about the company.

Everything X:

The recent move aligns with Musk’s X vision, under which Musk has also changed the official name of Twiter Corp. to ‘X Corp’, Bloomberg reported. X Corp is a technology company established in 2023, wholly managed under X Holding Corp.

Under the X vision, Musk envisions a super app, like WeChat, which can do everything from messaging, video calls, food delivery, and shopping. Everything will be included under the same platform. And Musk’s recent startup, X.AI, is linked to the same dream.

Musk Contradicts himself:

Despite Musk’s vision, the shocking news comes as a surprise since Elon Musk signed the open letter to halt AI developments. The open letter urged the world to halt new development in competitive AI models superior to ChatGPT’s fourth generation for six months. The open letter has circulated worldwide, and over a hundred scientists, tech businesses, and entrepreneurs signed the letter.

Musk was apparently against the AI developments:

Musk, along with Sam Altman, among others, was the key founder of OpenAI- the company that has taken the AI industry to another level with the launch of ChatGPT. The gang formed the company in 2015, but Musk soon left the company in 2018. Multiple media reports link his demise from the company to failure in owning the entire company, while others link it to Musk’s clash of interest with SpaceX and Tesla.

But ever since his separation from OpenAI, Musk has vocally criticized AI developments, citing the fatality of the AI expansion. In an address at the World Government Summit in Dubai in February, Musk described AI as a “dangerous technology” whose “unchecked usage could threat society”. Musk even compared the severity of AI threat to nuclear warheads, citing the former as more dangerous.

However, with the launch of his new business venture aimed at developing the same, Musk is facing the heat on social media and the internet. Many are bashing the conglomerate for contradicting his statements.

Is Musk a rival to OpenAI?

Following the demise of Elon Musk from OpenAI amid a conflict of interest, Musk has openly contradicted OpenAI and its moves in general. However, when Musk was able to develop his own AI firm, he joined the same race, showcasing utter hypocrisy.

Additionally, the claims of Musk occupying thousands of GPU processors from Nevada further express his desire to make conversational AI like ChatGPT.

However, due to a lack of information on the details of his company, no firm conclusions can be drawn, at least not yet. But with everything X and now X.AI, one thing is for sure, Musk is ready to barge into the AI battle at full throttle, giving tough competition to its biggest rival- OpenAI!
